Real Salt Lake has hired Todd Hoffard as the new director of goalkeeping, the team announced Friday. He fills the vacancy left by fired Daryl Shore.

Hoffard formerly worked with RSL head coach Mike Petke during their overlapping time with the New York Red Bulls and has spend the past two years at Lebanon Valley College as the head coach of the women's soccer program.

"Mike and I always got along well at Red Bull, putting in a lot of time with the first team as well as the reserves," Hoffard said in a team release. "I jumped at opportunity to work with him again, now part of a great organization that puts the 'family' aspect of our business first."

The Eastern Pennsylvania native steps into his new role as the fourth goal keeping coach in RSL history.

His predecessor Shore, who was with RSL for 3 ½ years, joined the club under former head coach Jeff Cassar. Real Salt Lake announced Shore's dismissal on June 26. Monarchs assistant Matt Glaeser stepped into his role in the four-week interim.

Hoffard was hired as the Red Bulls goalkeeping coach in 2011 and spent two seasons in that role. He has also coached the United States Women's U20 and U14 goal keepers and has a long history coaching at the college level.

"I'm very excited to have Todd join our staff," Petke said in a release. "… He embodies exactly what I was looking for in this position, as his experience, pedigree and communication skills attest."
