Provo • BYU basketball coach Dave Rose has added a scholarship player and a walk-on to complete his roster for the 2017-18 season.
The scholarship signee is Kajon Brown, a 6-foot-5 guard from Lee College in Baytown, Texas. Brown, who is from Harvey, La., will be a junior this season and has two years of eligibility remaining.
The walk-on is former Weber State guard McKay Cannon, who is from Shelley, Idaho. Cannon played in 32 games last season for the Wildcats, starting in seven, after having started in 33 of 35 games his freshman season. He will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Rose has now filled all 13 of his allotted scholarship spots for this fall's roster. Brown fills the scholarship vacated by forward Eric Mika, who gave up his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the NBA draft last month.
Brown helped Lee go 21-11 last year by averaging 8.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists. He shot 45.8 percent from the field and scored a season-high 28 points against Baton Rouge Community College.
He played his freshman season at Tulsa in 2015-16 but appeared in just six games, with one start. He played high school basketball at Helen Cox and earned all-district honors.
Cannon, the all-time leading scorer in Shelley (Idaho) High history, will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out this season. He averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season but his playing time was cut significantly from his freshman season.
Cannon served a church mission to Chile from 2013-15.
