The Salt Lake Bees jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they beat the Las Vegas 51s 6-3 on Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark.
Bees starting pitcher John Lamb had three strikeouts, walked five batters and allowed four hits and two runs in six innings.
Lamb struggled in the fifth inning, when he walked two batters and the 51s scored twice.
Turning Point • The Bees had control from the first pitch, with Lamb throwing a 1-2-3 first inning followed by Shane Robinson hitting a lead-off double.
Ramon Flores followed that with a double of his own, bringing Robinson home. Perez singled home Flores and gave the Bees an early 2-0 lead.
Bees MVP • Robinson went 3 for 4 with a double and a walk. He scored two runs.
Hidden Hero • Nolan Fontana went 2 for 3 and scored two runs for the Bees.
Quoteworthy • "Lamb did a great job for us," said Bees manager Keith Johnson. "This is his second start of the season, coming off injury he did a really good job. He was way more efficient with his pitches tonight, minus [the fifth inning], which was a little bit of a road bump. He was able to go back out and pitch a clean sixth for us. So it was a really good outing on his part."
Angel Angle • Angels utility man Jefry Marte was sent to Salt Lake as Los Angeles called upon newly acquired infielder Nick Franklin to start at second base. Franklin was traded from the Brewers. During his time in the majors, Marte went 2 for 11 with three strikeouts in addition to playing some time at first base.
What's next • The Bees will play Game 3 of the four-game series against Las Vegas on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark. —
