Stockton, Calif. • For the first time since 2002, BYU's baseball team is going to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars completed an unlikely run through the elimination bracket of the West Coast Conference tournament and punched their ticket to the big dance by sweeping Gonzaga 10-3 and 16-3 on Saturday at Banner Island Ballpark.

Nationally ranked before getting swept by Gonzaga last weekend, BYU (37-19) will learn its NCAA Tournament destination during the selection show Monday at 10 a.m MDT on ESPN2.

After starting the double-elimination tournament Thursday with a 3-2 loss to second-seeded Loyola Marymount, the regular season tri-champion Cougars won four straight games to end their NCAA drought at 15 years.

In the winner-take-all championship game Saturday night, BYU jumped out to a 10-1 lead with six runs in the fifth inning and held on to win the league tournament for the first time since it joined in 2012.

Every hitter in the BYU lineup drove in at least one run and scored at least once, and Bronson Larsen hit his tournament-record fourth homer of the weekend in the rout.

Making just the fourth start of his career, Kendall Motes gave up one run in 41⁄3 innings and struck out three before BYU's bullpen took over.

Colton Shaver drove in three runs and David Clawson, Brock Hale, Nate Favero, Keaton Kringlen and Larsen had two RBIs each.

In the first game, BYU got an outstanding pitching performance from Jordan Wood.

Wood, a sophomore from Texas, allowed just two earned runs and four hits in seven innings of work. He struck out five and walked two.

Meanwhile, the Cougars started quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning and four more in the third to turn the game into a laugher.

Gonzaga beat BYU three times last week in Spokane by a combined score of 26-8 to force a three-way tie for the league title with the Cougars and Loyola Marymount. But the Cougars turned the tables this weekend, rediscovering an offense that entered the tournament ranked fifth in the NCAA in runs scored and team batting average.

Tanner Chauncey belted a three-run homer in the first inning and Larsen delivered a three-run homer in the fourth. Daniel Schneeman drove in two runs, Clawson added a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Favero tacked on a solo homer in the eighth inning.

Wood, who usually pitches in midweek games, improved to 5-0 with the win. Maverik Buffo, who beat Loyola Marymount in Friday's second game, made the all-tournament team along with Larsen, Hale and Schneeman.

Utah 7, Arizona State 4 • Riley Ottesen struck out a career-high 11, and the Utes rallied from an early deficit to beat the Sun Devils.

After falling into an early 3-0 deficit, the Utes (26-24, 14-15 Pac-12) scored five runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth inning.

Ottesen (5-4) allowed four runs on six hits with three walks over 81⁄3 innings.

Utah's Chandler Anderson went 2 for 4 with four RBIs, including a two-run triple to tie the score.
