Bees: Salt Lake rallies past Iowa Cubs for 13-11 victory

First Published      Last Updated May 12 2017 10:58 pm

The Salt Lake Bees won for the seventh time this season in a game which they trailed after six innings, the most wins in the Pacific Coast League in such scenarios. They rallied from a five-run deficit to beat the Iowa Cubs, 13-11, in the second game of their four-game series at Smith's Ballpark.

The Bees scored seven runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to earn the victory. Angels infielder C.J. Cron went 2 for 4 with a walk and two RBIs and two runs scored on his rehab assignment. Kaleb Cowart (3 for 5, two runs), Ramon Flores (3 for 5, two runs), Eric Young Jr. (2 for 5, three runs) and Carlos Perez (2 for 4, three runs) each enjoyed multi-hit games.

Turning Point • The Bees scored three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for the first time since the second inning. They'd trailed by one going into the eighth, but Cowart's RBI single tied the score, and Rey Navarro's two-run double put the Bees ahead 13-11.

Bees MVP • Cowart, who finished with three RBIs, is now batting .296 this season.

Hidden Hero • Perez, the Bees catcher, doubled, drew a walk and stole a base.

Quoteworthy • "It's the PCL," Cowart said of the way that game unfolded. "Those games happen. Everybody took their at-bats serious and nobody gave them away. That's the key to baseball for sure."

Angel Angle • Cron, a former University of Utah standout, batted third and served as the designated hitter. In the past two games, he has gone 4 for 8.

What's next • The Bees continue their series with Iowa at 6:35 on Saturday night. The Bees will host their annual "Pack the Park Pink Night" in an effort to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
