The Salt Lake Bees fell in the second game of a Pacific Coast League set with the Omaha Storm Chasers on Sunday at Smith's Ballpark, as the visitors rode seven strong innings from starting pitcher Christian Binford for a 6-1 victory.

Omaha chased Salt Lake starter Luis Diaz with single runs in the third and fifth, sandwiching a three-run rally in the fourth. The Bees' lone run came when Carlos Perez tripled in the sixth and then crossed home on a single by Rey Navarro.

Turning Point • It was only a 1-0 deficit in the fourth when Omaha scored three more runs. Two of those came on a one-out single by Dean Anna, who nearly popped out in the same at-bat. Anna's foul pop, however just landed out of the field of the play - and just out-of-reach of Bees' third baseman Rey Navarro.

Bees MVP • Relievers Cody Ege and Brooks Pounders threw the last four innings, giving up just one run. Ege struck out four in his two-plus innings of work and started his day by picking Omaha baserunner Ramon Torres off first. Pounder set down the Storm Chasers in order in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Hidden Hero • None of his hits were part of a run-scoring sequence, but second-baseman Sherman Johnson had a two-for-four day for the Bees with a single in the fourth and a double to the right-field fence in the ninth.

Flashing Leather • Kaleb Cowart came into the game at first base when Cron exited. Although Cowart committed an error on his first chance in the fourth, he was in nice mid-game form in the sixth with a stop of a hot shot by Omaha's Dean Anna. Cowart fielded the grounder cleanly and stepped on first for the out.

Quoteworthy • "We finally got an opportunity to get some of them [Bees relief pitchers] rested, so they're on normal rest. When they're on normal rest, they're pretty good," Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson said.

Angel Angle • Former Utah Ute C.J. Cron, on a rehab assignment, made his first appearance for the Bees on Sunday. Cron was hit by a pitch from Binford and left the game in the third inning. Cron had fouled a ball off his foot during the Angels' April 28 game against Oakland and was placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Ute angle • Omaha catcher Parker Morin — who went to Park City High School and also was a Ute — singled in the third inning and doubled in the fourth.

What's next • The Bees take on the Storm Chasers Monday in the third game of the four-game series. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark.
