Lehi • Even for a non-region game, and with a forecast of rain, the Lehi and Stansbury softball teams were still eager to take to the diamond Wednesday afternoon.

For Stansbury pitcher Bailey Christensen and her Stallions teammates, it was a chance to play a good practice opponent. For Lehi coach Tim Kennedy, it was an opportunity to work on certain game situations.

Unfortunately for Kennedy, Christensen didn't give the Pioneers a chance to do much as the senior worked all seven innings in a 5-2 road victory.

"I told the girls before the game that we were going to work on stuff to kind of help us get better," Kennedy said. "We didn't have many base runners on today, so we didn't get to work on it."

Lehi (12-11) got single runs in the first and seventh innings. Stansbury (12-9), meanwhile, also got one run per inning — from the second through the sixth.

"I think it went really good," said Christensen, who kept the Pioneers scoreless during that same stretch.

"I just think it's really good practice to get ready for those (region) games," Christensen added.

Stansbury is currently in a three-way battle in the middle of the pack in tradiionally power-laden Region 10 in Class 3A, while Grantsville sits atop the league.

The Pioneers are currently sitting in second in Class 5A's Region 4 and had just come off a win over defending state champ Riverton on Tuesday. Lehi started strong, getting singles from Bailey Tahbo and Lexi Butterfield in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 lead.

A half-inning later, Stansbury responded with a run-scoring single by Lindsey Allie. In the third, Stansbury went up 2-1 on a solo home run by Alyssa Oxborrow.

The trend, one run per inning, continued for the Stallions as Kambree Christiansen drove in a run in the fourth and, in the fifth and sixth, Oxborrow and Christiansen each doubled to propel Stansbury to more runs.

Lehi's Tahbo clubbed a homer to right-center in the seventh for the final run.

"Bailey pitched great, she didn't give up very many hits although there was that one in the end," Stansbury coach Bridget Clinton said. "We played good defense and our hitting was solid. We scored just about every inning, not any huge inning.

"Just one here and there and that gave Bailey enough runs that she could just do her thing and throw her pitches," Clinton added. —

• Stallions senior Bailey Christensen pitched shutout ball from the second through the sixth innings.
