Despite outstanding scoring performances by All-Star forward Gordon Hayward and point guard George Hill, the Utah Jazz fell at home in Game 3 of the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs on Friday night, 111-106, to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Jazz now trail the series 2-1, with Game 4 on Sunday night in Salt Lake City.

Clippers point guard Chris Paul dominated the second half and took control in the fourth quarter to will the Clippers to victory. Paul scored 24 of his 34 points in the second half.

Hayward scored a career-high 40 points and went 13-for-21 shooting. He had entered the night having averaged 19.5 points per game in the first two games of the series, but hescored 21 first-quarter points to lead the Jazz to a nine-point halftime lead.

Hill scored 13 of his 26 points in the third quarter, a quarter in which he went 3-for-3 from behind the 3-point line.

Clippers star power forward Blake Griffin scored 11 points before leaving the game late in the first half with an injury to his big toe. He did not return.

Luc Mbah a Moute scored 13 second-half points to finish with 15 for the Clippers, and DeAndre Jordan scored 17 and grabbed 13 rebounds to give the Clippers a quartet of players with 11 points or more. Jamal Crawford and Raymond Felton scored nine points apiece off the bench for the Clippers.

Joe Johnson (15 points) was the only Jazz player besides Hayward and Hill with 10 points or more.
