Minneapolis, Minn. • Defender Aaron Maund joined Real Salt Lake's lengthy injury list Saturday night, leaving the match against Minnesota United with a left hamstring strain early in the first half. Sunday Stephen came on in the 13th minute at midfield, with Luke Mulholland shifting to right back.

None of the players listed as day-to-day or questionable found his way into the starting lineup. Defenders Tony Beltran (back) and Chris Schuler (hamstring) joined forward Chad Barrett (leg) and defenders David Horst (knee) and Justen Glad (knee) on the sidelines. Forward Joao Plata (hip) dressed as a reserve for the first time since the season opener. Winger Jordan Allen (quad) also sat out.

Goalkeeper Nick Rimando and midfielder Albert Rusnak started after rejoining RSL from the U.S. and Slovakian national teams, respectively.

Petke looks on

While Daryl Shore completed his brief stint as interim head coach of RSL on Saturday night, newly hired head coach Mike Petke remained close by.

Petke observed RSL training here Friday at a turf field near downtown Minneapolis, then watched Saturday's match with vice president of soccer administration Rob Zarkos in a luxury box at TCF Bank Stadium. Monday will be Petke's first official day in charge. He replaced Jeff Cassar, who was fired March 20.

RSL ties to Minnesota

Mulholland and goalkeeper Matt VanOekel are familiar names to Minnesota soccer fans. In 2011 they were teammates on NSC Minnesota Stars, a precursor of United that won the North American Soccer League championship.

Gold and maroon on display

The expansion United is renting TCF Bank Stadium, the University of Minnesota's football stadium, until its own stadium is built. As part of the deal, the university is required to paint over field logos only for nationally televised games. That's why the penalty areas featured MINNESOTA in gold block letters, with a maroon M in the center circle. —
