Palo Alto, Calif. • Jayson Rose and Dylan Drachler combined to shut out Stanford in Game 1 as the Utah baseball team split a doubleheader with the 12th-ranked Cardinal on Saturday, winning 4-0 before falling 6-4.

Rose had a season-high eight strikeouts, allowing two walks and six hits over 71⁄3 innings. Drachler picked up his fourth save, striking out two and allowing no hits over 12⁄3 innings of work.

DaShawn Keirsey Jr. led Utah (10-10, 1-4 Pac-12) at the plate in the win, going 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Utah and Stanford (12-6, 1-1) meet in the rubber match of their series Sunday.

Loyola Marymount 2, BYU 0 • In Los Angeles, Cory Abbott pitched the first perfect game in Loyola Marymount baseball history, striking out 13 of the 27 Cougars he faced.

Abbott struck out pinch-hitter Tanner Chauncey on a 3-2 pitch to finish the game against the defending WCC champion Cougars (10-11, 1-2). The Lions improved to 13-10, 4-2.

Softball

Weber State 3-0, Sacramento State 2-4 • In Sacramento, Calif., the Wildcats (17-11-1, 1-1) split their rain-shortened opening weekend of the Big Sky Conference season, beating the Hornets (11-14-1, 1-1) in 10 innings, 3-2, and then falling 4-0. Molly Horne's sacrifice fly drove in the winning run in Game 1.

Southern Utah 11, Northern Colorado 3 • In Cedar City, the Thunderbirds (6-17, 2-1 Big Sky) scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Bears (13-21, 1-2). Nicole Simonson had a grand slam and Kendall Kapitzke added a two-run single and a solo homer.

Utah State 2-6, Nevada 6-3 • In Reno, Nev., the Aggies (20-7, 3-2 MWC) split the doubleheader with the Wolf Pack (16-13, 2-3). In Utah State's 6-3 victory, Jazmin Clarke had two hits and three RBIs.

Men's volleyball

No. 1 Long Beach State 3, No. 3 BYU 0 • In Provo, the 49es (22-3, 15-2 MPSF) swept the Cougars (21-3, 14-2), winning the battle for first place 25-21, 25-22, 25-21. BYU's Jake Langlois had 10 kills and five digs.

Men's tennis

BYU 4, San Diego 0 • In Provo, the Cougars (11-8, 4-0 WCC) won the doubles point, then got victories from Matthew Pearce, Jacob Sullivan and John Pearce to defeat the Toreros (9-7, 1-1).

Utah State 4, San Diego State 1 • In Logan, Jack Swindells helped the Aggies win the doubles point by teaming with Jonas Maier for a 6-1 victory. Swindells then clinched the Mountain West Conference opener with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.

Swimming & diving

BYU at NCAA championships • In Indianapolis, Payton Sorenson matched his BYU record of 42.86 seconds to finish 24th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Utah at NCAA championships • In Indianapolis, Utes sophomores Austin Phillips and Daniel McArthur competed in the 200-yard backstroke, with McArthur taking 32nd (1:43.42) and Phillips finishing 34th (1:43.96).

Track & field

Utah at UC Riverside Invitational • In Riverside, Calif., Poppy Tank and Hannah McInturff took the top two places in the women's 3,000-meter run.

Tank's time of 9:51.52 broke the meet record set by UNLV's Nikki Regalado last season.

Women's tennis

BYU 4, Houston 1 • In Provo, Houston (9-9) won the doubles point but had to forfeit the No. 6 singles spot. BYU (5-8) then got wins from Samantha Smith, Savannah Ware-Avina and Kate Cusick to clinch the match. —

Two Red Rocks are All-Americans

Utah freshman MyKayla Skinner and senior Baely Rowe were named regular season All-Americans by the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches for Women.

Skinner received first-team honors in the all-around, vault and floor and made the second team on bars. Rowe earned first-team status in the all-around and also made the second team on beam.
