South Jordan • Coaches sometimes notice something an opponent is doing and are able to make a halftime adjustment that can lead to a victory.

Such was the case Tuesday as Bingham's boys soccer team remained unbeaten in Region 3 play with a key 3-1 victory over Brighton.

Miner coach Ahmed Bakrim noticed that the Brighton defense was massing toward the middle of the field, so he encouraged his team to attack from the flank.

That resulted in two second-half goals from the left side by senior Isaiah Cardosa that broke a 1-1 tie in a difficult, physical battle.

"They were being physical and we had to match that physicality," said Bakrim about a rugged match that was, at times, a bit chippy.

The Miner coach had nothing but praise for Cardosa, who made two nice plays, one on an assist by Corbin Lawrence and another with help from Austin Howard.

"I want him to believe in himself," said Bakrim. "Sometimes he is too hesitant."

Cardosa said that on the goal early in the second half that gave Bingham the lead for good, Howard set him up well, allowing him to dribble the ball on the left side and get the shot past Brighton goalie Thomas Jensen.

The Miners struck early, scoring inside the second minute, on a nice shot by Leo Soberia.

The Bengals caught fire late in the half and finally got a goal when Jackson Pond got off a nice free kick from near midfield that Bingham goalkeeper Zach Rothey managed to block, only to have David Brog score on the rebound.
