State colleges: No. 20 Utah routs No. 10 UCLA in softball

Utah's Katie Donovan carried a no-hitter into the seventh and Hannah Flippen smashed a grand slam as the No. 20 Utes defeated No. 10 UCLA, 7-2, in a Pac-12 softball game Saturday in Los Angeles.

Utah went ahead in the fifth inning, when Alyssa Barrera hit and RBI single and Anissa Urtez added a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.

Weber State 2, Quinnipiac 1 • In Northridge, Calif., Tatiana Su'esu'e and Kirtlyn Bohling combined for a school record-tying 11 strikeouts as the Wildcats edged Quinnipiac on the second day of the Matador Classic.

Weber State (14-10-1) has won seven in a row. The Bobcats fell to 6-12.

Su'esu'e (6-1) allowed four hits and one run with a career-high seven strikeouts. Bohling picked up her third saven, allowing just one hit and one walk in the final 2 2/3 innings.

Utah State 6, UNLV 2 • In Logan, Sydney Hart and Sarina Jaramillo hit home runs as the Aggies (18-5, 2-0 Mountain West) topped the visiting Rebels (16-11, 0-2).

April Brown pitched the first six innings for USU, tallying four strikeouts, and Kellie White retired the Rebels in order in the seventh.


Mountain Rim Championships • In Logan, host Utah State came in second to 11th-ranked Boise State. The Broncos finished with 197.050 points, while the No. 23 Aggies tallied 196.100.

No. 19 Southern Utah (196.075 was third, followed by BYU (194.675).


BYU 10, Connecticut 9 • In Provo, Brennon Anderson's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Casey Jacobsen and gave the Cougars (9-9) the clinching win in the three-game series with thye Huskies (9-8).

Jacobsen led off the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

Washington 3, Utah 1 • In Seattle, DeShawn Keirsey Jr., led off Game 1 of a doubleheader with a homer that accounted for all the Utes' scoring in the loss.

Utah's Jayson Rose took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out seven.

Utah Valley 2-5, Creighton 3-6 • In Omaha, Neb., Utah Valley University (4-14) jumped out to a five-run lead but the Blue Jays rallied to take Game 2 of the doubleheader, 6-5. Creighton (3-11) won the first game, 3-2.
