Lehi • Skyridge broke open a tied game halfway through the second half to beat Provo 3-1 and remain perfect in boys' soccer action Friday.

The Falcons (5-0-0) got on the board first when senior forward Jaxon Sorensen scored, but the Bulldogs countered 13 minutes later on a goal by senior Josiah Fox.

Sorensen put his team ahead again when he managed to get his foot on a loose ball bouncing around in a crowd in the box and sent a rocket into the high corner to give Skyridge a 2-1 advantage.

Senior midfielder Matthew Holt added an insurance goal by following a shot by junior forward Paiden Mecham set up by a give-and-go from sophomore forward Bennett Rios with about four minutes left.

Provo goalkeeper Jorge Garcia made a great play to deflect the first attempt, but Holt was there to collect the rebound and boot the ball past Garcia, who was on the ground.

"I've been taught to always crash the goal, especially by my dad," Holt said. "I was there to support Paiden, but he had an unfortunate touch that went to the goalkeeper, and I was there to follow it up."

Holt enjoys his role in the midfield and said it's much easier because of his position partner, sophomore McCoy Evers.

"We support each other," he said. "I like being the playmaker and getting the ball where it needs to be."

Sorensen is more than thankful for his speed, which he used effectively.

"I've always been fast," he said. "I ran track in junior high, but running has never really been my main focus. It's just what I do."

Sorensen said that Provo was a lot tougher than the other teams the Falcons have faced so far, which made the victory especially satisfying.

"It's good to get a win against a quality team like that," he said. "We're all best friends on this team and this will give us some momentum moving forward." —
