San Diego • McKenna Bull became BYU's career strikeout leader as the softball team picked up wins over Miami of Ohio and Detroit Mercy in a doubleheader in the San Diego Classic I on Friday.

Bull broke the strikeout record in the sixth inning of a 6-2 victory over Miami (5-10) and finished with 11 Ks to up her career total to 805. She surpassed the 803 tallied by Pagie Affleck from 2008 to 2011.

Bull's 11 strikeouts were also a season-high for the senior.

The Cougars (10-6) notched a season high in runs scored in the 16-o victory over Detroit Mercy (3-8).

Weber State splits at SpringHill Suites Invitational • In Nampa, Idaho, the Wildcats were shut out, 5-0, by Cal State Northridge to open the day, then erupted for a 12-0, five-inning romp over Santa Clara in the second game.

Weber State (6-9-1) had 16 hits in the victory, led by catcher Riana Splinter and third baseman KyRae Kogianes with three each.

Utah splits at SUU Red Desert Classic • In St. George, No. 16 Utah split its doubleheader, topping Montana, 5-2, before falling apart late in a 7-6 loss to Nevada.

In the victory, Heather Bowen and Kelly Martinez each homered for the Utes.

Bowen had a two-run homer and a two-run single to help the Utes take a 6-0 lead over Nevada.

But the Wolfpack sent 12 batters to the plate in the seventh inning and scored seven runs, all unearned, to stun the Utes.

Utah Valley drops two at SUU Red Desert Classic • In St. George, the Wolverines lost to UC Santa Barbara, 9-7, and Utah State, 7-2.

UVU led 4-0 entering the fourth inning in the first game but couldn't hold off the Gauchos (5-10). Basia Query had a two-run homer for the Wolverines, and Brittney Vansway had three RBIs.

In the loss to the Aggies, Taleigh Williams went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kirsten Andersen was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Wolverines (0-6).

Victoria Saucedo was 3-for-3 with a double, a solo homer and three runs scored for the Aggies. April Brown (5-0) went the distance in the circle.

Utah State 3, Nebraska-Omaha 0 • In St. George, Victoria Saucedo again went 3-for-3, including a two-run hom run, and the Aggies improved to 10-3. Amanda Sheets was 2-for-3 with the other RBI.

Kellie White pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits. She struck out four and walked three.

This is the fastest the Aggies have reached 10 wins in a season since 1986.

Southern Utah splits in SUU Red Desert Classic • In St. George, the Thunderbirds lost to UNLV, 2-1, then defeated Binghamton, 4-3.

Sarah Murphy was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss to the Rebels (10-5). Southern Utah pitcher Kirsten Hostetler (1-3) allowed two runs, one earned, in six innings. She gave up seven hits and three walks, while striking out two.

In Game 2, the Thunderbirds (2-8) took a 4-0 lead and held on.

Men's volleyball

BYU 3, Cal Baptist 1 • In Provo, the third-ranked Cougars (15-2, 9-1 MPSF) won 25-16, 25-17, 28-30, 25-15 after recording 11 service aces, including a career-high five from Jake Langlois. The Lancers fell to 3-14, 1-12.

Baseball

Utah 17-3, UTSA 3-8 • In San Antonio, the Utes split a doubleheader with Texas-San Antonio, winning the first game 17-3 and losing the second 8-3.

Down 1-0 after the first inning of Game 1, the Utes (6-3) scored six runs in the second inning and six more in the third for a commanding 12-1 lead.

Dallas Carroll led Utah, going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. Josh Rose, Chandler Anderson and Zack Moeller all drove in three runs for the Utes.

In Game 2, UTSA got a seven-run second inning en-route to its 8-3 win.

Moeller and Hunter Simmons both homered for the Utes and Chase Bauerle pitched 42⁄3 scoreless innings in relief.

Men's basketball

Southern Idaho 81, Salt Lake Community College 75 • In Taylorsville, the Golden Eagles had three players in double figures, led by Danya Kingsby's game-high 21 points and advanced to the Region 18 title game.

Dalven Brushier led the way for the Bruins with 17 points. Isaiah White had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Conway added 13 points and Christian Gray had 10 points and eight rebounds.

Snow College 86, Utah State-Eastern 63 • In Taylorsville, the top-seeded Badgers (26-5) advanced to the championship game of the Region 18 tournament.

SWAC Player of the Year Zach Hunsaker led the Badgers with 21 points.

Women's basketball

Salt Lake Community College 66, USU-Eastern 47 • At Taylorsville, Annie Brady had a game-high 21 points to lead the top-seeded Bruins into the Region 18 championship game.

Snow College 54, Southern Idaho 52 • In Taylorsville, the Badgers upset the Golden Eagles to advance the title game.

Jazmin Chavez led Snow with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Men's tennis

Utah State 4, BYU 3 • In Logan, the Aggies (8-6) took the doubles point with wins from the teams of Jaime Barajas and Andrew Nakajima and Kai Wehnelt and Samuel Serrano.

In singles play, the Cougars (8-7) got wins from Matthew Pearce, Keaton Cullimore and Jacob Sullivan and the Aggies got wins from Barajas, Serrano and Jonas Maier.

Maier's victory, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 over Aidan Carrazedo, clinchd the victory.

Women's tennis

Utah 6, BYU 1 • In Provo, BYU (2-4) got a 6-4 victory from Savannah Ware-Avina and Samantha Smith and a 7-5 victory from Natella Nabieva and Kate Cusick to win the doubles point.

Utah (3-1) then dominated singles play, with wins from Briana Turley, Jena Cheng, Taylor Calton and, with the clincher, Margo Pletcher. The Utes added two more wins to make the final score 6-1.
