Oklahoma City • With the deadline looming Tuesday, the Utah Jazz and starting power forward Derrick Favors are unlikely to come to terms on a renegotiation and extension of his contract, Favors' agent Wallace Prather tells The Salt Lake Tribune.

"I don't see it," Prather told The Tribune via text message.

The Jazz have $13.6 million in cap space, and are currently $4 million below the salary cap floor.

Favors' current contract expires after next season. The former Georgia Tech star has had a difficult year dealing with injuries and diminished play. But he's played arguably two of his best games of the season after the all-star break.

He was particularly impactful in Sunday's win over the Washington Wizards. Defensively, Favors was everywhere, blocking four shots and shutting down Washington forward Markieff Morris as his primary defender.

Not surprisingly, with Favors looking more spry and athletic, the Jazz have two relatively easy wins in the second half of the season. Favors was a popular name during the trade deadline, with teams showing interest in the 6-foot-10 forward, sources tell The Tribune.

But the Jazz told Favors and Prather they were extremely hesitant to include him in any deal. And true to their word, Favors has remained with the organization. If the two sides can't come to an R and E agreement, Favors will be on track to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season for the first time in his career.

Utah point guard George Hill is also eligible for an extension.
