Denver • Salt Lake City native Trevor Lewis scored the go-ahead goal with a slick move in the second period, Peter Budaj stopped 24 shots and Los Angeles beat the Colorado Avalanche 2-1 on Tuesday night as Darryl Sutter moved into a tie for most wins as coach of the Kings.

Tyler Toffoli also scored for Los Angeles, which halted a three-game skid. Sutter captured his 215th win as the Kings' coach to draw even with Andy Murray.

Budaj was solid against his former team, especially in the third period when he made 11 saves. Budaj picked up victory No. 27 this season, his most since winning 31 with Colorado in 2006-07.

Drew Doughty committed a costly turnover that led to Mikko Rantanen's second-period goal, only to atone with a pinpoint backhanded pass that set up Toffoli's score.

With the score tied 1-1, Lewis glided down the left side after an Avalanche turnover, cut toward the middle with Tyson Barrie chasing him and pushed the puck past Calvin Pickard for his eighth goal of the season.

Pickard made 30 saves for the Avs.

Blackhawks 5, Wild 3 • In St. Paul, Minn., Jonathan Toews had three goals and two assists and Chicago beat rival Minnesota for its second win over the Western Conference-leading Wild in less than two weeks.

Toews notched his fourth career hat trick on an empty-netter with 1:02 left to stave off a spirited rally by the Wild, who began a franchise-record eight-game homestand on Feb. 8 with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Blackhawks. Toews had a goal and two assists in that one and has 37 points in 35 career games against Minnesota. Chicago's captain has 20 points in his last 12 games .

Canadiens 3, Rangers 2, SO • In New York, Paul Byron scored in the fifth round of the shootout, and Montreal gave coach Claude Julien his first win in his second stint with the Canadiens.

Penguins 3, Hurricanes 1 • In Raleigh, N.C., Sidney Crosby scored the go-ahead goal on a deflection in the second period, and Pittsburgh beat Carolina. Evgeni Malkin and Scott Wilson also scored to help the reigning Stanley Cup champions improve to 7-1-3 since the All-Star break.

Flames 6, Predators 5, OT • In Nashville, Tenn., Mark Giordano scored 43 seconds into overtime, and Calgary edged Nashville in a crucial game between teams holding the Western Conference's wild cards.

Senators 2, Devils 1 • In Newark, N.J., Craig Anderson made 29 saves, and Ottawa beat New Jersey despite playing without three of its top forwards. Ottawa was without Mark Stone (22 goals), Mike Hoffman (19 goals) and Bobby Ryan (12 goals) after all three were injured over the weekend.

Maple Leafs 5, Jets 4, OT • In Toronto, Jake Gardiner scored at 2:29 of overtime to lift Toronto over Winnipeg.

Islanders 3, Red Wings 1 • In Detroit, Calvin de Haan was credited with a go-ahead goal that caromed off an opponent late in the second period, and New York beat Detroit. De Haan's shot from above the left circle was stopped by Petr Mrazek, but the rebound went off Detroit defenseman Xavier Ouellet and the back of the goaltender's left leg and into the net.

Lightning 4, Oilers 1 • In Tampa, Fla., Ondrej Palat scored twice and Nikita Kucherov had a goal and three assists to lead Tampa Bay over Edmonton. —
