Ogden • Any aspiring basketball player wondering how the game was intended to be played need only watch the first-half clinic Olympus provided in its 91-69 thumping of Timpanogos in the Class 4A boys' quarterfinals at Weber State University on Thursday.

The Titans connected on 70.4 percent of their attempts in the first 16 minutes, including knocking down 11 of 16 (68.8 percent) shots from beyond the arc. All five starters drained at least one triple. The highly efficient play was in direct correlation to 15 assists. Remember, this all came in the first half en route to piling up 53 points at the break.

"What a great 32 minutes for us," Olympus coach Matt Barnes said. "It was a great clinic of how we like to play and what we like to do — sharing the ball, making the extra pass, playing as a team. When we shoot it like that, it's pretty remarkable. … It's a lot of fun when everyone is involved and you're playing the right way, and that's what I've always believed in."

And although the third quarter provided a brief hiccup, with the Titans managing only six points, they immediately recovered with a 32-point fourth quarter to reach the 90-point plateau.

Olympus clung to a two-point lead at the end of an electric first quarter, which saw the teams combine for 11 3-pointers. The Titans opened the second quarter with an 18-0 run to blow it open.

"It was a tremendous second quarter," Barnes said." I've been around 20 years, and I don't know — I'm getting old; can't remember everything — but that was pretty impressive."

It was a beautiful display of team basketball. Five players reached double figures in scoring — Jeremy DowDell (25 points), Matt Lindsey (20 points, eight rebounds), Rylan Jones (16 points, 10 assists, six rebounds), Travis Wagstaff (14 points) and Harrison Creer (11 points, seven rebounds).

"Our goal is obviously to win a state championship. When we're passing it and moving it like our coach always tells us — we love it. We haven't shot it that well in a while," DowDell said.

Olympus (23-2), the defending champ in 4A, led for more than 31 minutes against the Region 7 co-champions, who were led by Matt Norman (16 points), Dalten Stewart (14 points) and Conner Halford (11 points).
