Orem • Maple Mountain built a double-digit lead with a 10-0 run to finish the first quarter and never looked back on its way to a convincing 78-47 victory over Murray in the first round of the Class 4A boys' basketball tournament Tuesday night at UVU.

Four Golden Eagles players reached double figures in scoring, led by senior guard Parker Christensen with a game-high 19.

All but one of the nine players who scored for Maple Mountain also made an assist. The Eagles tallied 16 on 27 field goals, a clear reflection of the pinpoint passing that is one of the keys to their offensive success.

They also shot very efficiently, netting 60 percent from the field, including 53 percent from long range, and 76 percent at the free-throw line.

"We play a similar game so it works out for the team when we play off each other," Christensen said about Tyler Boyack, who scored 16 points.

Boyack only came to Maple Mountain last year in a family move, but he's emerged as the engine that runs the train at point guard.

"They let me come and join them," Boyack said. "I was accepted with open arms. We move the ball well and you could see tonight the confidence we have in each other. We had every guy step up when he needed to."

The Eagles (17-6) advanced to play Corner Canyon (16-7) in Thursday's 11:40 a.m. quarterfinals at Weber State. —

Maple Mountain 78, Murray 47

• Maple Mountain played tough defense and put on an offensive clinic on the way to a blowout victory over Murray in the 4A first round.

• The Golden Eagles netted eight 3-pointers in the contest, but they weren't necessarily looking for them. "We take them if they're there for us, but we don't rely on them," guard Parker Christensen said.

• Murray senior guard Alec Vahn led his team with 14 points. He was the only player for the Spartans in double figures.
