Orem • Holding a two-to-one advantage in points is a tough thing to do the longer the game goes.

Bingham did it for a long, long time Monday as the Miners demonstrated just how dominate they could be — even in a Class 5A boys' basketball state playoff contest.

Bingham cruised to a 66-41 victory over Northridge with little hardship.

The game was held on the campus of Utah Valley University, a familiar site for the Miners. They throttled Viewmont in last year's opening round (70-32) en route to the 5A state title.

"We shot it well last year, so it helped out a lot," said Bingham's Lleyton Parker, who scored half of the Miners' points in an 18-4 run to start the game. "We had a good shootaround before [the game], and I came out and was feeling good. My teammates really helped me set up my shot. That's how we got it done."

After Northridge (12-11) got a 3-pointer from Alec Duffin midway through the first quarter, Miners 6-foot-11 center Branden Carlsen knocked down a pair of free throws, followed by a bucket by Dax Milne and a putback from Carlsen for a 24-7 lead heading into the second quarter.

"We had plenty of film on them, spent hours watching, we knew they were outstanding," Knights coach Lyndon Johnson said. "They're just good in a lot of places.

"They've got good length — not only on the inside, but on the perimeter. Every shot that you're getting, it's just that more difficult because everything's contested."

Northridge, which was led by Jensen Clifford's 11 points, scored the first seven points in the second half, but the Miners quickly reaaserted their dominance.

"We're a real experienced team with a couple of multi-sport guys, and we've all been to the state championship last year," said Parker, who finished with 21 points. "We've all been here before, so we knew what we had to do to get things done." —

Bingham 66, Northridge 41

• Bingham starts its 2017 playoffs at the same site where the Miners began their 2016 title run for a state title ... and with a victory of similar proportion to an opening-round win over Viewmont a year ago.

• Miners guard Lleyton Parker makes half of his eight 3-point attempts and scores a game-high 21 points.

• Branden Carlson, Bingham's 6-foot-11 post, also scores 14, while Dax Milne tallies 13.

• Jensen Clifford leads Northridge with 11 points.
