Taylorsville • To watch Hannah Glazier battle against taller players, to scratch and claw for anything she could get her hands on, it was impossible to tell how nervous she was inside.

The Timpview junior forward made a rare start Tuesday, but she played a key roll in the Thunderbirds' 46-39 victory against Highland in the first round of the Class 4A girl's basketball state tournament.

"I tried to get out of my own head and go run my hardest," Glazier said. "The team was really encouraging and helpful. I feel like as the game went on, I felt more comfortable."

Glazier, who appeared in just eight games in the regular season, was thrust into the starting lineup late in the season after Jasmine Espinoza went down with a season-ending injury in early February.

Glazier hung tough inside Tuesday despite giving up 2 and 3 inches against Highland's talented post players. She scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds to help Timpview reach Wednesday's quarterfinals.

"She hasn't gotten many starts this year," Timpview coach Aimee Dorais said. "She's kind of a late bloomer for us, but I think she absolutely killed it today. "

Ella Pope scored 15 points and Kealani Neves added nine points for Timpview (16-5), which led most of the game and held off repeated challenges from the bigger Rams (15-6).

Highland took a brief lead in the third quarter on a Misini Fifita 3-pointer and later trailed by just one point after a basket by Lana Olevao.

But Timpview responded and closed the game on an 8-2 run, highlighted by a steal, layup and foul shot by a gimpy Neves, who sat part of the fourth quarter with what appeared to be leg cramps.

Olevao scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Highland dominated the glass, outrebounded Timpview 44-25.

"I think people should see we're a dangerous team, too," Glazier said. "We're going to come out hard no matter who it is. We're not done yet."
