Drug possession charges have been dropped against former Utah State standout running back and Super Bowl champion Robert Turbin stemming from a July 2016 traffic stop.

The Cache County Attoney's Office submitted a motion in Logan Municipal Justice Court to dismiss the charges without prejudice on evidentiary grounds Dec. 2, 2016. Judge David C. Marx signed the motion and order to dismiss.

The motion to dismiss was filed on Turbin's birthday.

Turbin, 27, entered a not guilty plea through his attorney Mark A. Flores on a class B misdemeanor charge July 14, 2016.

Logan Police cited Turbin for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop July 8, a day before he hosted a youth football camp in Logan.

Logan Police said Turbin ran a stop sign at 800 North and 200 West just before 11:30 p.m. An officer said he smelled burnt marijuana in the vehicle, and a K-9 indicated the presence of drugs. Police said they found a marijuana cigarette in the car's center console.

Turbin did not appear impaired, according to police. He was allowed to drive away after being cited at the scene.

Turbin ranks fifth all-time in Utah State history with 3,315 yards rushing, and his 40 rushing touchdowns are tied for first.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Turbin in the fourth round in 2012, and he played in Super Bowl XLVII as well as Super Bowl XLIX. He subsequently has played for the Cleveland Browns and Dallas Cowboys.

He spent the 2016 season as a member of the Indianapolis Colts. He played in 15 games this past season, rushing for 164 yards and seven touchdowns on 47 carries.

Turbin faced a potential four-game NFL suspension without pay, per league rules, if he'd admitted to the offense or been convicted.
