Utah Grizzlies: Second-period spurt carries Grizzlies past Alaska

The Utah Grizzlies scored a pair of goals 65 seconds apart in the second period, and that's all they needed to down the host Alaska Aces 2-1 on Thursday night.

Kevin Boyle stopped 33 shots to earn the win for Utah, which emerged victorious for the eighth time in nine games.

"He makes every save look easy," Grizzlies coach Tim Branham said in a release. "I thought he played the puck really well, he controlled the rebounds really well, and that's the sign of a good goaltender."

Colin Martin scored his 11th goal of the season to give the Grizzlies the lead in the second period before Taylor Richart found the back of the net 65 seconds later for the 2-0 lead.

The Grizzlies enjoyed eight power plays but failed to score on any of them.

The Aces and Grizzlies wrap up their three-game series with the rubber game set for 9:15 p.m. Friday.
