A look at three standout performers and three key numbers from Friday's Day 1 of the Class 4A state swimming meet at BYU.

Rachel Oyler

In her first individual state race, the Timpview freshman won the 50-yard freestyle and nearly broke the state record — missing it by just three-hundredths of a second. She touched the wall in 23.77 seconds. Hailey Pabst of Mountain Crest set the 4A state record Feb. 8, 2013.

Talmage Corey

The Olympus junior took first in the 200 individual medley, nipping Wasatch's Ian James to the wall. Corey touched in 1 minute, 59.29 seconds. He will try to defend his 2016 title in the 100 backstroke Saturday.

Makayla Cazier

The Maple Mountain junior successfully defended her 200 individual medley state crown by beating second-place Lily Plaudis from Kearns. Cazier's winning time of 2:06.32 actually was more than a half-second slower than her victorious time last year.

The number of consecutive finals races won by Skyline to kick off the meet. The Eagles claimed the first event, the girls' 200 medley relay, when Corner Canyon was disqualified after a swimmer left the block early. They then won the boys' 200 medley relay before sophomore Becca Goodson captured the title in the 200 freestyle. Timpview's Brigham Harrison ended the streak when he won the 200 freestyle.

Speaking of successful Eagles ... the number of boys' team championship earned by Skyline heading into this year's meet. The Eagles are on their way to No. 13, enjoying a 33.5-point lead over second-place Springville.

Number of team titles for the Skyline girls' team, which is looking for its sixth straight in 2017. The girls also are well on their way after Day 1, holding a 24-point lead over second-place Kearns.
