West Jordan • With West Jordan clogging the lane in an effort to take away Bingham star center Brandon Carlson, the Miners needed a perimeter shooter to take charge Tuesday night.

Enter senior guard Tanner Davis, who scored a career-high 17 points and led the Miners to a 55-42 road victory in Region 3 action.

"In past games, I haven't been shooting as well as I'd like to," said Davis, who made four 3-pointers. "Tonight, I just had a lot more confidence and knocked down a lot more shots. I just felt really good."

Davis' previous career-high was eight points.

"We've been waiting a long time for Tanner to break out, and tonight was the night for him," Bingham coach Mark Schroeder said. "Hopefully he keeps this a secret so people don't guard him more."

Davis' biggest contribution was a 3-pointer in the middle of a 13-1 run for Bingham (11-3, 2-1) to end the third quarter.

The teams played at a grind-it-out pace for the first 21 minutes, with neither team leading by more than five points. But Bingham got two 3-pointers from Dason Youngblood and Davis' 3 to push the lead to double figures entering the fourth quarter.

"Loose balls and 50-50 balls can really change a game," Schroeder said. "Once we stared getting those, we got some momentum, got out and got some easy ones, and that really turned the game for us."

West Jordan (8-7, 1-2) effectively took Carlson out of the game, as the Jaguars denied him the ball in the post and held him to two points through three quarters. Carlson finished with eight points, six below his season average.

Darrian Nebeker scored 15 points for West Jordan, which led 31-30 in the third quarter. —
