Saratoga Springs • The American Fork boys basketball team came from behind in the fourth quarter to prevail 59-54 over Westlake in Region 4 action Tuesday night.

The Thunder got off to a hot start, scoring seven unanswered points to open the game and building a 14-4 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

The team was led by senior wing Isaac Lungren, who netted two of his six 3-pointers during the opening spurt and added another basket as well. He finished with a game-high 22 points.

The Cavemen responded in the second period with a 20-8 run, led by senior wing Jake Whitehead and senior guard Dylan Simpson. American Fork led 24-22 at the break.

Lungren turned things in the home squad's favor one more time, scoring 11 points to push the home squad in front 41-35 entering the final stanza.

A pass from senior forward Mason Warenski to sophomore center Isaac Johnson for a dunk gave the lead back to the Cavemen with 3:20 left to play and they got enough defensive stops and free throws in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Westlake sophomore guard Austin White had 10 points and senior guard Shamon Willis added eight points.

American Fork used a balanced attack to help deal with the Thunder pressure. Junior guard Rob Crowther was top scorer with 12 points, followed by Johnson with 10, sophomore guard Trey Stewart with nine and Whitehead with eight.

"Whenever you go on the road, especially in our region, you have to learn how to play tough," said Caveman coach Doug Meacham. "I thought Mason came off the bench and got some big rebounds and steals and made hustle plays to give us a spark," the coach continued. "Those kinds of things don't always show up in stats, but he changed the tempo of the game."

Meacham was pleased that his young guards took care of the ball. "Anytime we can commit less than 10 turnovers against that kind of pressure, I can't complain," he said. —
