Wailuku, Hawaii • The BYU women's basketball team opened the Maui Wahine Classic with a 63-54 victory over UNLV on Friday for their third consecutive win.

Four Cougars finished with double-digit scoring: Kalani Purcell led with 16 points and seven rebounds, followed by Kristine Nielson, with 14, Makenzi Pulsipher, with 13, and Cassie Broadhead, with 11.

UNLV (5-1) took the lead early, going into the second period up, 21-11. BYU responded with a 12-2 run in the second period to bring the score to a 25-all tie.

In the final period, the Cougars were up, 54-52, and allowed only two more points from the Rebels.

Nielson scored five points in the final minute, including a 3-pointer. Broadhead and Pulsipher contributed two free-throws each in the final 20 seconds.

SIU-Edwardsville 74, Utah Valley 61 • Despite an early 13-8 lead, Utah Valley (1-7) lost to SIU-Edwardsville in Colorado Springs.

Wyoming 68, Southern Utah 48 • In Laramie, the Cowboys used a fourth-quarter 21-4 run on their way to defeating the Thunderbirds (5-3).

SLCC 81, Williston State 28 • In Twin Falls, the Bruins (7-1) dominated Williston State at the College of Southern Idaho Tournament and extended their winning streak to four games.

Westminster 55, Western State Colorado 45 • The Griffins (3-2) went on a 9-2 run in the fourth quarter to on their way to defeating the visiting Mountaineers.

Men's Basketball

Westminster 82, Western State Colorado 61 • Dayon Goodman scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Griffins (1-2) over the Mountaineers.
