Logan • Indiana State's T.J. Bell had one field goal Saturday night at the Spectrum

It couldn't have come at a worse time for Utah State.

Bell took a pass from teammate Everett Clemons and scored with two seconds remaining, capping a second-half rally that carried the Sycamores to a 62-61 victory over the Aggies.

With a crowd of 7,064 screaming, Indiana State's Brenton Scott brought the ball up the floor against Utah State freshman Koby McEwen.

Scott drove across the lane and, under heavy pressure, seemed to lose possession as he attempted a floater. Clemons beat everyone to the ball, however, and flipped it to Bell for the game-winner.

"We just wanted to go downhill," Clemons said. "[Scott] got to the rim and I saw the ball in the air so I stuck my nose in there. When I came down with it, I saw T.J. was wide open."

Said Utah State coach Tim Duryea: "They drove it and we came to help. I saw the ball got knocked out of [Scott's] hands, but I don't know how it got to the other side of the floor. … Hard way to lose a game."

After Bell's basket, the Aggies quickly inbounded to Jalen Moore, who fired a 35-footer as time expired.

He missed.

"It came down to that last play," McEwen said. " … We played great defense until the ball got tipped. But they came up with it."

Shane Rector scored 14 points to lead Utah State, which lost its fourth straight game and dropped to 3-4 on the season.

Scott scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half for Indiana State, which improved to 4-4.

"Obviously, that's a really, really hard loss," Duryea said. "I thought, down the stretch, Indiana State played like a veteran team. Very poised. Very purposeful. Very clutch. … And I thought we played young."

In the first half, Utah State dominated.

The Aggies led by as many as 16 points and limited Indiana State to 8-for-30 shooting. It was 35-21 before Utah State managed only three field goals in the opening eight minutes of the second half.

Still, the Aggies owned a 52-46 lead when the Sycamores' Matt Van Scyoc buried a 3-pointer with 4:25 remaining. Moore was called for a foul on the shot, though replays showed the contact resulted when Van Scyoc stuck out his right leg.

Instead of being called for an offensive foul, though, his free throw tied the game.

"I tried to contest the shot," Moore said. "I didn't think I fouled him. But it is what it is. They called a foul. That's my fault on that."

It was 59-58 before Indiana State took its first lead since the opening minute when Scott scored with 1:02 left. But McEwen buried two free throws with 9.8 seconds remaining to make it 61-60.

McEwen had only made nine of his previous 18 fouls shots this season.

"Koby clutched up and converted two and that's what you hope for there," Duryea said. "… That was him making strides because he's struggled early from the free-throw line."

It wasn't enough, however.

"Tough loss," Moore said. "A one-point game. A lot of things can happen. They went their way. That's about it."
