Orem • Provo dominated for three quarters, then held off a rally by Skyridge to win 24-16 in a Region 7 play-in game Tuesday afternoon at Orem High School.

The victory gets the Bulldogs into the playoffs as the third seed from Region 7. They will play at Maple Mountain Saturday at 1 p.m. to open the Class 4A tournament. The loss marks the end of the season for the Falcons.

The Bulldogs' Braiden Lovell hit a 38-yard field goal, then quarterback Spencer Jorgensen threw two touchdown passes to Ty Jones. When Jorgensen ran for a touchdown, the Bulldogs were ahead 24-0 and cruising.

One of the touchdowns by Jones was another of his trademark highlight-reel catches.

"I think he's the best receiver in the state," Bulldogs coach Tony McGeary said. "Our quarterback trusts him to make those catches. He's just hard to defend."

But Skyridge wasn't done. The Falcons surged in the fourth quarter, posting 16 unanswered points on a touchdown pass from Cody Frampton to Colby Samuels and a pick-six by Wyatt Parkinson, both followed by successful two-point conversions.

The Falcons had a shot at a third score late in the game, but the Bulldogs batted down a final fourth-down heave near the end zone to secure the victory.

"That was too close for comfort," McGeary said. "That's a good team, there's no question about it. They had a good year but we're just happy to get the win."

McGeary said the key for his team was experience.

"We've been in so many of these tight ones that we're not fazed," he said. "We made some mistakes, but overall both the offense and defense played well." —
