Provo • The No. 16 BYU Cougars women's volleyball team defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions in five sets (25-23, 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon at the Smith Fieldhouse.

After dropping the second and third sets, the Cougars (19-3, 8-2 West Coast Conference) won the fourth to force a fifth.

Three Cougars had double-digit kills, led by freshman McKenna Miller, who had 20 kills and three blocks. Senior middle blocker Whitney Young Howard had 12 kills and five blocks, and sophomore Veronica Jones-Perry contributed 10 kills. Mary Lake led the defensive effort with 18 digs.

The Lions (14-8, 5-5 WCC) fell behind 20-13 in the first set, but scored 10 of the next 13 points to tie the set at 23. Amy Boswell and Miller to give BYU the first set.

In the fifth set, the Cougars rallied from one point behind, at 9-8, with a 4-1 run to take a 12-10 lead. BYU took advantage of a Lions attack error to win the final set.

Utah 3, Oregon State 2 • The Utes snapped a three-match home losing streak with a five-set victory (25-15, 23-25, 21-25, 27-25, 15-9) over the Beavers at the Huntsman Center.

Four Utes registered double-digit kills for Utah (15-6, 6-4 Pac-12): Adora Anae, with 26, Tawnee Luafalemana, with 12, and Berkeley Oblad and Eliza Katoa with 10 each. Freshman Brianna Doehrmann led Utah's defense against Oregon State (8-13, 1-9 Pac-12) with a career-high 16 digs.

Utah State 3, Nevada 1 • Lauren Anderson led the Aggies over the visitors (25-17, 18-25, 25-17, 25-19).

With the win over the Wolf Pack (14-7, 5-4 MW), Utah State improved to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in Mountain West play behind a career-high 23 kills from junior outside Anderson. Senior outside Kaylie Kamalu-Smith (15) and junior right side Kayla DeCoursey (11) both also recorded double-digit kills for the Aggies.

North Dakota 3, Weber State 1 • The visiting Fighting Hawks (16-9, 8-2 Big Sky) defeated the Wildcats (13-6, 4-6 Big Sky), who dropped all but the second set (25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22).

Utah Valley 3, UT Rio Grande Valley 2 • In Orem, the Wolverines held on to win against the Vaqueros (15-9, 5-4 Western Athletic Conference) in five sets (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 15-10).

Kiahna Vernon had a career-high 18 kills for Utah Valley (10-12, 6-3 WAC).

Montana State 3, Southern Utah 0 • In Cedar City, the Thunderbirds (4-18, 2-8 Big Sky) fell in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 25-17) to the Bobcats (5-14, 3-7 Big Sky).

Westminster 3, Fort Lewis 1 • The Griffins defeated the visiting Skyhawks (25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17). Savannah Isen, with 15 kills, and Amara Spere, with 14, led the Westminster (4-17, 2-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) offense over Fort Lewis (4-16, 3-9 RMAC).

Women's soccer

UVU 6, Missouri - Kansas City 2 • In Orem, Breanna DeWaal scored twice to boost the Wolverines (9-6-2, 3-2-1 WAC) over the Kangaroos (5-9-4, 2-2-2 WAC)

Swimming & diving

Arizona 156-171, Utah 142-119 • Utah's men and women's teams fell to Arizona at home. Jack Burton won the 100 breast with a time of 57.02, and the 200 breast, finishing first with a time of 2:05.54. Stina Colleou took first in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:19.15.

Arizona State 189-189, BYU 109-107 • In Provo, Preston Jenkins won two events for the Cougars, but BYU lost both the men and women's duals. Jenkins clocked in at 1:40.11 to win the 200-yard freestyle and led his team to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Cross country

Rocky Mountain Athletic Championship • In Spearfish, S.D., the Westminster cross country women's team finished 14th and the men finished 15th.
