The University of Utah has added women's beach volleyball as an intercollegiate sport beginning in the spring of 2017. The Utes will be the ninth member of the Pac-12 to have a beach volleyball program.

Director of volleyball and indoor coach Beth Laundiere, along with assistant coach JJ Van Niel will coach the team. The 2017 roster will consist mainly of members of the 2016 indoor team.

The NCAA beach volleyball season starts in March and ends in May. Utah will play 10 regular-season matches, all on the road.

The Utes start play at the Stanford Beach Tournament on March 10-11, followed by a match against San Francisco on March 12. Regular-season play concludes March 17-19 in Hawaii, with five matches at the Hawaii Tournament and a match against Nebraska.

The Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships are in Tucson, Ariz., at the end of April.

Women's Soccer

Utah 1, Washington State 0 • Hailey Skolmoski scored in the 85th minute the the Utes won their fourth straight game.

Utah is unbeaten in the past nine matches and improved to 10-2-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Pac-12 Conference.

Goalkeeper July Mathias made three saves for Utah and Ella Dederick made six for Washington State (6-7-1, 1-5-0 Pac-12).

New Mexico 2, Utah State 0 • In Albuquerque, N.M., the Aggies fell to the Lobos. Sophomore Grace McGuire made three saves for Utah State, which fell to 9-6-0 overall and 5-2 in Mountain West play. Claire Lynch and Jennifer Munoz scored for New Mexico (7-6-2, 3-4-0 MW).

Weber State 1, Idaho 1 • In Ogden, the Wildcats (5-7-2, 3-3-1 Big Sky) and Vandals (5-4-3, 5-1-1) played to a draw. Paige Stevens leveled the score with her fourth goal of the season for Weber State in the 76th minute.

Utah Valley 1, UT-Rio grande Valley 0 • In Edinburg, Texas, Sydney Fitzpatrick scored in the 98th minute to lift the Wolverines (7-6-1, 1-2-0 Western Athletic Conference) to an overtime victory over UT-Rio Grande Valley (9-4-1, 1-1-1 WAC).

Southern Utah 3, Eastern Washington 3 • In Cedar City, the Thunderbirds and Eagles (10-1-3) played to a draw. During the first half, Ally Thimsen scored her third and fourth goals of the season for Southern Utah (2-9-2).

Westminster 2, Adams State 1 • Jacqueline Williams and Jayne Christensen scored for the Griffins (7-2-3, 4-1-3 RMAC) in Westminster's win over Adam State (7-5-0, 4-4-0 RMAC).

Men's Soccer

Utah Valley 2, Air Force 0 • In Colorado Springs, Colo., Paul Hoffmeister scored twice in the Wolverines' (10-3-0, 3-1 WAC) win over the Falcons (9-4-0, 3-1 WAC).

Volleyball

No. 7 Washington 3, No. 21 Utah 0 • In Seattle, the Utes fell in straight sets to the Huskies, snapping their six-match winning streak on the road (25-21, 25-15, 25-18).

Carly Trueman, with 12 kills, and Adora Anae added 11 kills for Utah (13-5, 4-3 Pac-12) in the loss to Washington (15-2, 5-2 Pac-12).

Utah opened the second set with a 6-2 lead, but Washington went on an 8-1 run to take a 10-7 advantage. The Huskies followed that with a 9-3 run for a 20-13 lead, then took the set. Washington started the third set with the lead and never lost it.

SLCC 3, College of Southern Nevada 0 • In Taylorsville, the Bruins (17-7, 4-2 Scenic West Athletic) won in straight sets (25-21, 25-13, 25-21) against the Coyotes (9-13, 2-4).

Black Hills State 3, Westminster 0 • In Spearfish, S.D., the Griffins (2-16, 0-9) fell to Black Hills State (5-13, 3-7) 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 in Rocky Mountain Conference play.

Cross Country

Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational • In Madison, Wis., BYU's men's cross country team finished in third place. Senior Nicholas Montanez led the Cougars with a time of 24:02.8 to finish ninth in the 8K.

The No. 23-ranked Utah women's cross country team finished in seventh place. Grayson Murphy finished in 20th place with a time of 20:36.8 in the 6K.

The Weber State women's team finished 23rd in the championship race and the Wildcat men's team took second in the Open. Hailey Whetten led the Wildcats, finishing 17th overall with a time of 20:34.4 in the 6K.

Southern Utah's men's team finished in 12th place. Matt Wright ran the 8K in 24:33.4 to finish 45th.
