Pleasant View • The saying goes that "anything can happen in a rivalry game." It doesn't matter who's an underdog teams or who's heavily favored when they're rivals.

The cliché held true in a tight first quarter between Fremont and Weber on Friday night. In the end, though, the Silver Wolves made sure that "anything" wasn't happening on their watch, as they ran away from the Warriors 43-23.

After the first quarter ended with both teams knotted at 7-7, Fremont senior quarterback Saxton Morby took control of the game with a 12-yard scramble for his second rushing touchdown of the day. The dual-threat quarterback continued to pile on the offense from there, finishing with 276 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns.

"I have a lot of fun doing everything out there," Morby said. "Throwing, running, opening things up for other people, it's all fun. Everything just worked out tonight because [Weber] was really keying in on Haze [Hadley] a lot, it opened up a lot of things for everyone else. It's a big advantage when you have a lot of good players on your team and everyone is willing to buy in to what you're doing."

Morby wasn't the only one to reap the benefits of a Weber defense trying their hardest to limit one specific player. Senior running back Austin Freeman also had a stellar night, finishing with 172 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while also hauling in three catches for 45 yards and another score. From midway through the third and into the fourth quarter, Freeman's four rushing attempts during that time went for 25, 29, 51 and 50 yards.

"I've got to give credit to our line," Freeman said. "I got through the line and I didn't get touched once, I've got to give all the credit to them for making those holes. I have a lot of fun running behind them. It's a team sport; you've got to love it."

Fremont coach Kory Bosgieter said that depending on how the opponent plays defense, it's almost a sure thing that one of the senior trio of Morby, Freeman and Hadley will have a great game. They just have to see what they are trying to stop, and give the ball to one of the others.

"You look at what people are going to try and do defensively against us, if they're going to try and take Haze out of the game, then Austin is going to have a good game. Those three have played a lot of downs for us through the years; we're very fortunate to have them together playing so well."

With the regular season coming to a close and the Region 1 title still up for grabs, Bosgieter will need his star trio playing at their best. But, he said that his team still has plenty to improve on before championship time starts rolling around.

"We just need to continue to get better every day," Bosgieter said. "We still made plenty of mistakes tonight, there's plenty to work on on Monday, I'm sure. We'll take a look at the things we didn't do well tonight and what we haven't done well all year and we'll try to get those fixed before it really counts." —
