Each Monday, we'll recap notable performances from local BYU, Utes, USU and SUU alumni in the NFL. Here's what stood out from week three:
Best of the week: Local defensive alumni have a field day picking off passes
Former Ute Sean Smith, former Cougar Daniel Sorensen and former Aggie Bobby Wagner each had an interception Sunday in victories for the Raiders, Chiefs and Seahawks respectively. Smith added two tackles and an assist, Sorensen two tackles, and Wagner six tackle assists.
Worst of the week: Former Utah State CB Lawson earns longest defensive penalty in 15 years
The former Aggie was tagged for a 66-yard pass interference penalty, the longest since a 60-yard pass interference call in 2010. Lawson was also a part of an Aggie secondary that was roasted for four passing touchdowns by Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals
• Broncos RB Devontae Booker (Utah) had four carries for eight yards and one reception for 17 yards.
Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers
• Vikings RB Matt Asiata (Utah) had six carries for 15 yards and one reception for four yards.
• Panthers DT Star Lotuleilei (Utah) had two tackle assists.
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
• Lions LB Kyle Van Noy (BYU) had three tackles and an assist.
• Lions CB Nevin Lawson (Utah State) had two tackles and an assist.
• Packers LB Kyler Fackrell (Utah State) had a sack and a tackle.
• Packers safety Marwin Evans (Utah State) had one tackle.
Cleveland Browns at Miami Dolphins
• Browns DE Nate Orchard (Utah) had one tackle.
• Dolphins LB Koa Misi (Utah) had two tackles and an assist.
Baltimore Ravens at Jacksonville Jaguars
• Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. (Utah) led the team with eight receptions for 87 yards.
• Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (BYU) had six receptions for 42 yards.
• Ravens safety Eric Weddle (Utah) had four tackles.
Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans
• Raiders CB Sean Smith (Utah) had an interception, two tackles and an assist.
• Raiders safety Keith McGill (Utah) had one tackle.
• Titans CB Brice McCain (Utah) had one tackle.
Los Angeles Rams at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
• Rams safety Maurice Alexander (Utah State) had three tackles.
San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
• Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner (Utah State) had an interception and six tackle assists.
San Diego Chargers at Indianapolis Colts
• Chargers DT Tenny Palepoi (Utah) had a tackle assist.
• Colts RB Robert Turbin (Utah State) had four carries for nine yards and a touchdown.
New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs
• Chiefs QB Alex Smith (Utah) completed 25 passes on 33 attempts for 237 yards and a touchdown.
• Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen (BYU) had an interception and two tackles.
