Logan • Utah State fought through rain to defeat the Colorado State Rams 3-1 in the Aggies' Mountain West Conference opener.

Senior Jessica Brooksby scored two goals to lead the Aggies (5-4-0, 1-0-0 MWC). Freshman Alecia Robinson scored the final goal for Utah State, and junior forward Wesley Hamblin tallied an assist.

Redshirt sophomore Grace McGuire had six saves in the victory.

Utah State won its first conference opener since joining the Mountain West.

Brooksby gave Utah State an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute, then added a second 15 minutes later: she took an earned free kick, which the Rams deflected back to her and she sent it past Colorado State goalkeeper Paige Brandt.

The Aggies went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Robinson scored her fourth goal of the season in the 58th minute, off an assist from Hamblin.

The Rams escaped a shutout with a goal from Amy Eckert one minute later.

Northern Colorado 2, Weber State 1 • In Ogden, the Wildcats opened conference play with a 2-1 loss to the Big Sky's defending champions, the Northern Colorado Bears.

Sophomore Morgan Quarnberg scored for Weber State, recording her first goal of the season.

Weber State goalkeeper Sydnie Brough made five saves in the loss and Bears goalie Madeline Burdick made eight saves.

The Wildcats fell to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big Sky.

Sacramento State 2, Southern Utah 0 • In Cedar City, the Thunderbirds dropped into an early deficit and lost to the Hornets in their Big Sky Conference opener.

Sacramento State forward Kayla Collins stunned the T-birds with a goal off an assist from Kassidy Kellogg in the first minute. Kellogg added a second goal for the Hornets in the 14th minute, off a corner kick.

SUU (1-6-1) had eight shots on goal, but couldn't capitalize.

SLCC 0, Snow College 0 • In Ephraim, the Bruins (3-1-2, 2-1-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference) and Badgers (5-2-1, 2-1-0) played to a scoreless draw.

Westminster 1, Western State 0, 2OT • Madison Roemer scored the lone goal in the match and the Griffins (5-1, 2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) won in double overtime at home.

Men's soccer

SLCC 1, Snow College 0 • In Ephraim, the Bruins (5-1-1, 4-0-1 SWAC) beat Snow College (5-2-2, 2-1-0) for their third consecutive win.

Colorado Mesa 3, Westminster 2 • Roy Abergil scored twice for Colorado Mesa (3-1-3, 2-0-1 RMAC) and the Griffins (1-5, 0-3-0) fell to the Mavericks at home.

Women's volleyball

Sacramento State 3, Weber State 1 • In Ogden, the Wildcats fell to the Hornets (21-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-23) and recorded their first loss.

Colorado Christian 3, Westminster 0 • In Salt Lake City, the Griffins fell to the Cougars (25-19, 25-13, 25-21).

Cross country

Utah at Nevada Chase Race • In Reno, Nev., the Utes came in second place behind the Nevada Wolf Pack.

Ute freshman Poppy Tank won the 6k with a time of 22:06.1, but Nevada claimed second through sixth, and notched just 20 points to Utah's 41. The Wolf Pack was led by redshirt freshman Lindsey Adams, who finished the race with a time of 22:09.5.

The runners' starting times were staggered in 20-second intervals.

BYU at Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational • In Charlottesville, Va., the BYU men's and women's cross country teams both took first place at the meet.

The No. 19 BYU's team scored 47 to win the 5k race, finishing ahead of Southern Methodist University and No. 16 Syracuse. Senior Yesenia Silva finished first for BYU (and fourth overall), with a time of 17:17.2.

The No. 12 BYU men's team finished the 8k with a score of 39, ahead of No. 1 Syracuse and No. 11 Virginia. Senior Nicholas Montanez finished fourth overall and first for the Cougars with a 23:53.9 time.
