Each Monday, we'll recap notable performances from local BYU, Utes, USU and SUU alumni in the NFL. Here's what stood out from week two:
Best of the week: Former Utes defensive back Eric Weddle makes plays against the Browns
Weddle played every one of the Ravens' defensive snaps (62) at safety and racked up five tackles, an assist and secured an interception from Browns quarterback Josh McCown to help Baltimore to a 25-20 win.
Worst of the week: Former Utes defensive end Derrick Shelby ineffective against Raiders
The Falcons defensive end signed a four-year, $18 million contract in the offseason to help boost the Falcons' pass rush and had only one tackle assist Sunday in 47 defensive snaps in a win over Oakland. His season total is three tackles and an assist.
Cleveland Browns vs. Baltimore Ravens
• Browns LB Nate Orchard (Utah) had one tackle and two assists in 24 defensive snaps.
• Ravens TE Dennis Pitta (BYU) had nine catches on 12 targets for 102 yards on 45 offensive snaps.
• Ravens WR Steve Smith Sr. (Utah) had three catches on six targets for 64 yards on 53 offensive snaps.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Carolina Panthers
• Panthers DT Star Lotuleilei (Utah) had one sack and one tackle on 40 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps.
• 49ers guard Zane Beadles (Utah) played 100 percent of the offensive snaps (65) at left guard and five special teams snaps.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans
• Chiefs QB Alex Smith (Utah) completed 20 of 37 passing attempts for 186 yards for zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also rushed twice for two yards and lost two fumbles.
• Chiefs safety Daniel Sorensen (BYU) had three tackles on 26 defensive snaps and 28 special teams snaps.
• Texans center Tony Bergstrom (Utah) played six percent of special teams snaps.
Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots
• Dolphins LS John Denney (BYU) played eight snaps on special teams.
• Dolphins LB Koa Misi (Utah) had four tackles and five assists on 45 defensive snaps and five special teams snaps.
Tennessee Titans vs. Detroit Lions
• Lions LB Kyle Van Noy (BYU) had one tackle on 37 defensive snaps and six special teams snaps.
• Lions DE Ezekiel Ansah (BYU) played three defensive snaps before suffering an ankle injury.
• Lions safety Miles Killebrew (SUU) played 16 special teams snaps.
• Lions CB Nevin Lawson (USU) had three tackles on 100 percent of the defensive snaps (67) and eight special teams snaps.
• Titans CB Brice McCain (Utah) had one tackle on 65 defensive snaps and 10 special teams snaps.
New Orleans Saints vs. New York Giants
• Saints DE Paul Kruger (Utah) a tackle, an assist and a fumble recovery on 60 defensive snaps and four special teams snaps.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
• Bengals LB Nick Vigil (USU) played 26 special teams snaps.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams
• Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner (USU) had five tackles and three assists on 100 percent of the defensive snaps (62) and seven special teams snaps.
• Rams safety Maurice Alexander (USU) had two tackles and two assists on 100 percent of the defensive snaps (67) and one special teams snap.
Atlanta Falcons vs. Oakland Raiders
• Raiders LT Donald Penn (USU) played 74 offensive snaps and five special teams snaps.
• Raiders CB Sean Smith (Utah) had five tackles on 100 percent of the defensive snaps (64).
• Raiders safety Keith McGill (Utah) had five tackles and an assist on 62 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos
• Colts RB Robert Turbin (USU) had three carries for 10 yards and a touchdown on 12 offensive snaps and nine special teams snaps.
• Broncos RB Devontae Booker (Utah) had nine carries for 46 yards and one reception for five yards on 14 offensive snaps.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Arizona Cardinals
• Cardinals LB Alani Fua (BYU) played one defensive snap and 22 special teams snaps.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. San Diego Chargers
• Chargers DT Tenny Palepoi (Utah) played 25 defensive snaps and 11 special teams snaps.
Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings
• Vikings RB Matt Asiata (Utah) had six carries for 14 yards and one reception for 11 yards on 12 offensive snaps and 12 special teams snaps.
• Packers safety Marwin Evans (USU) had one tackle on three special teams snaps.
• Packers LB Kyler Fackrell (USU) had one tackle on seven defensive snaps and 19 special teams snaps.
