Highland spread the ball around early and often Friday night as the Rams ran over the Box Elder Bees by a final score of 41-24 in Salt Lake City.

Six Rams scored touchdowns on the ground while the offense racked up 362 rushing yards on the night.

While the ground game was the featured weapon of choice for Highland, the passing game had its fair share of success. In addition to leading the team in rushing with 116 yards and a touchdown, senior quarterback James Pembroke also passed for a game-high 124 yards, which set up Rams' successful red zone offense.

Senior running back Jake Boren was the most successful recipient of Pembroke's passing game, hauling in three passes for 101 yards while also rushing for 45 yards and a touchdown.

"That's a tough one," Boren said after being asked if he enjoyed running or catching the ball more in Friday's win. "It was nice to get some catches every once in a while to mix things up."

Surely what Boren enjoyed most was winning a region game against a physical opponent like Box Elder.

"I've got to give props to our O-line and props to James [Pembroke], that was just a good overall team win. It's impressive whenever you have that many guys score on one night."

Another of Highland's touchdown scorers was senior fullback Lilo Clark, who finished with 48 yards rushing to go along with his touchdown in the second quarter. In an age when the fullback position is slowly fading away, he was thankful to have been given a chance to make some moves with the ball.

"I know that, for fullbacks, we love when the ball gets spread around that much," Clark said about his team's success with several running backs Friday night. "I feel like we have a lot of weapons on offense so we need to use all of them."

Highland head coach Brody Benson had no idea that he had that many players score in Friday's game, but he was pleased with what that kind of offensive performance says about the quality and depth of his team.

"We love to spread the ball around," Benson said. "We've got a lot of weapons and we've got a lot of guys that we can give the ball to. It definitely makes us a little harder to defend when you've got that many guys who can get into the end zone."

While having several different touchdown scorers is always nice, Benson was more proud of the way his team performed in what he called a "playoff like atmosphere" against Box Elder.

"It was a physical game, both sides were very, very physical up front and both teams were getting after it," Benson said. "Coach Gunter always has [Box Elder] well coached, they're well-disciplined and they're physical. Overall, I'm proud of our guys. That's a good football team they just beat." —
