Syracuse • Syracuse celebrated homecoming Friday night with one of the Titans' biggest victories in the 10-year history of the school.

The 13-6 thriller over Viewmont that kept Syracuse unbeaten in Region 2 came down to an official's call that could have gone either way.

The Vikings, who trailed the entire way but made a game of it in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard scoring toss from Davis Hadlock to Chandler Stafford with 6:13 to play, came within inches of a great comeback.

On the next series, Viewmont's Ethan Larsen picked up a Syracuse fumble, the Titans' only mistake of the night.

The Vikings saw the potential tying touchdown fumbled out of the end zone.

"That was right on the 1-yard line," said Syracuse star N.J. Mo'o, who admitted to being a bit nervous at that point. "I knew my teammates had it in them to finish the game."

Mo'o was easily the homecoming hero.

Mo'o caught touchdown passes of 33 and 10 yards from quarterback Ty Metcalf, recorded two second-quarter interceptions, had several nice punt returns and even tossed a halfback pass that nearly went for another score.

"He is one of the best athletes you could ever coach," said Syracuse coach Russ Jones about Mo'o. "He does his thing. He is great on offense, defense and special teams."

Viewmont knocked off preseason Region 2 favorite Davis last week to set up this battle of unbeatens in a key early-season contest.

Jones called this one of Syracuse's best wins.

"It ranks up there with some of them," said the veteran coach, whose only loss this season came in a 67-21 opener to 4A power East. "It was a big win. The kids worked and prepared hard all week."

Moments later, stadium lights went out as Syracuse players lit a victory torch. Homecoming fireworks sent the huge Titan crowd home happy.

It's going to be an interesting Region 2 season with Syracuse, Layton, Davis, Viewmont and Hunter poised to battle for the league title and four tournament berths.

But on this night, the Titans owned one of the biggest wins.
