After two weeks of the high school football season, Bingham and East tightened their stranglehold on the top spots in the statewide top 25 with statement wins this past weekend.

Bingham humiliated Herriman by handing the Mustangs their second-worst loss in school history — a 45-0 thumping. It was a near-perfect performance for the Miners, who scored on their first seven drives, with the scrubs accounting for the only punt late in the fourth quarter, while the defense surrendered only 121 yards on the night.

East equally suffocated Orem on Saturday. The Leopards were sluggish offensively in the first quarter until Jaylen Warren erupted with several huge runs. Obviously it's a two-game sample size, but Warren's current pace will shatter several individual UHSAA single-season rushing records.

He's scampered for 453 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries, which equates to 15.6 yards per attempt and 226.5 yards per game.

It also appears East discovered a new spark in the second half in its 38-0 win against the Tigers with quarterback Ben Ford. He ignited the offense with his threat to tuck-and-run and his instincts to make the correct read in the triple-option. Brandon Matich said the coaching staff would evaluate film before deciding if the change is permanent, but it was abundantly clear Ford looked more comfortable commanding the huddle.

Timpview also registered an impressive win against Helix (Calif.). The Thunderbirds overcame a late deficit to knock off the alma mater of Alex Smith and Reggie Bush.

Roy, which enjoyed the largest leap of five spots this week, was the other standout from Week 2. The Royals rushed for 240 yards, but displayed their versatility with four scores through the air in an upset against Jordan.

Biggest jumps: Roy (+5), Woods Cross (+4), Fremont (+3), Springville (+3), Olympus (+3), Sky View (+3), Desert Hills (+3), Hunter (+3), Corner Canyon (+3).
