The Bees left a lot of runners stranded — 10 through the first six innings alone — en route to a 2-0 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Turning Point • While the Bees failed to bring in any of their 10 runners that were left stranded through the first six innings, the Zephyrs — who already led 1-0 — tacked on one more run in the seventh off a J.T. Riddle leadoff home run to right field to take a 2-0 lead that would end up being the final margin.

Bees MVP • Right fielder Cal Towey had another notable outing on offense. Going 2-for-4, Towey helped set the Bees up in scoring position multiple times. In the seventh, Towey even hit a long ball toward the left-field wall, but was robbed by a nice leaping catch by New Oreleans outfielder Destin Hood.

Hidden Hero • The score did not end up in favor of Bees starting pitcher Nate Smith, but through the first six innings — and most of the game — Smith did well enough to give the Bees a winning shot. He pitched 6 2⁄3 innings, allowing six hits, two runs and striking out five.

Flashing Leather • Following a leadoff Zephyrs home run in the seventh, catcher Anthony Bemboom connected with second baseman Sherman Johnson — who had to make a leaping catch — to prevent an Isaac Galloway steal and record the first out.

Angel Angle • With catcher Geovany Soto sitting out with a sore thumb, recently called up Carlos Perez — who batted eighth in the lineup — went 1-for-3 on Wednesday in a 4-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

HISTORY LESSON • August 18, 1998: Edmonton's Brian Lesher set a Salt Lake opponent record with eight RBIs in the Trappers' 15-5 win in SLC. Lesher had four hits and drove in two runs with a double in the third inning, four with a grand slam in the fourth and two more with a single in the seventh. The Buzz had jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

What's next • Friday, 7:05 p.m.: Salt Lake (LHP Chris Jones, 5-10, 6.88) vs. New Orleans (RHP Dylan Axelrod 8-6, 3.74). —
