Round Rock's Brett Nicholas went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs Sunday night, leading the Express to a 6-2 win over Salt Lake. The Bees lost their fourth straight and dropped nine games under .500 for the second time this season.
Turning Point • Salt Lake owned a 2-0 lead before the Express scored five times in the fifth. With two outs, Hanser Alberto singled home two runs and Nicholas doubled in two more off losing pitcher Chris Jones (5-10).
Bees MVP • Kaleb Cowart homered for the second straight game. Leading off the fourth, he pulled a breaking pitch over the right-field fence. Cowart also doubled twice, bumping his batting average to .289.
Hidden Hero • Except for the hiccup in the fifth, Jones pitched well. He tied a season high by going seven innings. He struck out six and walked two. He gave up seven hits. He threw 102 pitches, including 74 for strikes.
Flashing Leather • With a runner on first and two out in the second, Round Rock's Drew Robinson hit a line drive to right center. Salt Lake's Rafael Ortega raced over and made a running catch, saving a run.
Quoteworthy • Veteran pitcher Tim Lincecum will start Monday against Round Rock after struggling with the parent L.A. Angels. Asked if he's considered the possibility that he's thrown his last big-league pitch, Lincecum said, "Never. That's never crossed my mind."
Angel Angle • The Bees have added starting pitcher Cody Edge and reliever Andrew Bailey to the roster. To make room, Chris Nuding was sent to Double-A Arkansas and Al Albuquerque was released.
History lesson • On Aug. 14, 2002, Nathan Haynes extended his franchise-record hitting streak to 24 games with a fourth-inning single against Sacramento. The Stingers defeated the River Cats, 14-6.
