A goal and an assist from Makensie Price lifted Bonneville to a 3-1 victory against Syracuse in the second day of the Ogden Cup girls soccer tournament on Wednesday.

The Titans scored first when senior forward Anne Peterson jumped on a deflected ball in the Bonneville box and blasted the ball past Laker goalkeeper Kyra McDowell in the ninth minute before the senior duo of Price and Bailee Wooden got their team in gear.

In the 39th minute, Wooden stayed onside and slipped past the stranded Titan backline to get on the end of a free kick from Price. Wooden calmly flicked the ball past Titan goalkeeper Gabby Segura to level the game at 1 heading into halftime.

The second half is when the Lakers began to dominate possession and control the game. After sending a few long-distance shots wide, Price scored via a corner kick from sophomore forward Isabel Togisala in the 59th minute. The ball narrowly avoided a Syracuse defender and reached the head of Price near the penalty spot before she directed it into the side netting at the far post.

"I just saw the ball coming straight towards me and I knew I had to do whatever it took to get that ball in," Price said. "I knew I needed to help my team take the lead, so that's what I did. My goal going into the second half was to score, I wanted to be the one that helped the team to win."

Ten minutes later, the Lakers put the game away when senior midfielder Tayah Reynolds laid a ball off to sophomore Karly Conolly outside of the box. The youngster saw Segura off her line and calmly fired a shot over her outreached arm and into the bottom corner to give Bonneville its second victory in two days, having beaten Northridge 2-1 in overtime on Tuesday.

Bonneville coach Robert McDaniel said it was good to see his team perform under pressure, but they can't get too excited.

"After such a big win last night, the girls were not quite ready mentally. They thought they were, but they weren't," McDaniel said. "We played horribly in the first half, we were passing to [Syracuse] more than ourselves. It was frustrating for the girls … to see them come out in the second half with the enthusiasm and excitement and aggression was fun to watch."

The Lakers will play Ogden tomorrow with a chance to win the tournament and remain undefeated.

"The girls worked hard early in the summer in conditioning," McDaniel said of a third game in three days. "They're in great shape, probably better shape than we were at this point last year. It's grueling, but we have a whole weekend to recover and get ready for next week's game."
