Salt Lake Bees starter Troy Scribner has been named the Pacific Coast League pitcher of the week, the league announced Monday.
This is the second PCL Pitcher of the Week honor in three weeks for the Bees. Previously Tyler Skaggs was given the award for the week of July 11-17.
In his first career Triple-A start Scribner threw a two-hit shutout on Friday night at Sacramento. Scribner allowed his first hit in the fourth inning when Matt Duffy hit a two-out single. The River Cats would get their only other hit with a two-out single in the eighth inning. Scribner allowed walks in the sixth and ninth innings, but never had a Sacramento runner advance past first base.
The two-hit shutout was the first for a Bees pitcher since June 16, 2009 when Trevor Bell accomplished the feat at home against the Colorado Spring Sky Sox. Bell was also making his first Triple-A appearance that night and was the last PCL pitcher to throw a shutout in his first game.
Scribner was acquired by the Angels in a trade from the Houston Astros organization prior to the 2016 season.
