Former Provo High and BYU star Kyle Collinsworth is one step closer to realizing his NBA dream.

Collinsworth, a 6-foot-8 guard/forward and one of the best players in BYU history, signed a two-year partially guaranteed deal with the Dallas Mavericks, he told The Tribune on Wednesday night.

Collinsworth has secured a training camp invite with the Mavericks as a part of the deal. He gets a sum of guaranteed money and a shot at making the roster.

"I'm excited about the opportunity," Collinsworth said. "All you can ask for is an opportunity, and the Mavericks are a great team and organization."

Collinsworth played in the Las Vegas Summer League with Dallas and impressed enough with his playmaking and versatility to earn a longer look. The Mavericks played him at all three perimeter positions, taking advantage of his passing and ability to handle the ball.

At BYU, Collinsworth became one of most versatile players in college basketball history, registering a NCAA-record 12 triple-doubles over the course of his career. He went undrafted, but appears to have landed in a good situation with Dallas.

The Mavericks have space to fill at the end of their roster, and are thin at the wing spots. That Collinsworth can play more than one position bodes well for his chances.

As a high school star at Provo, Collinsworth played on two Class 4A state title teams. He was named the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior before heading to BYU.
