The most successful season in Allen Boore's career continued Tuesday on the opening night of the Days of '47 Rodeo at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Doug Aldridge of Carthage, Mo., won the saddle bronc event when he posted a score of 85.5 points. But Boore, who is from Axtell, Utah, finished second with an 81 aboard a horse named No Blue. He earned $2,642.

"That's a really nice horse," said Boore. "He turned around and got into the fence a little bit. ... I got a little loose there when we were on the fence but was able to finish and make a little money out of it."

Boore ranks fourth in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings. He has won six times this season, including rodeos at Oakley and Fort Herriman, Utah. He has official earnings of $61,224.

Any money he makes in Elite Rodeo Athletes events like the Days of '47 is not counted by the PRCA, but Boore is well-positioned to make his first trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The top 15 money-winners in each event qualify.

"That's my goal right now," he said. "Just keep taking it to them, keep working and, hopefully, I can make it happen and get there."

Boore missed reaching the National Finals last year, when he finished 18th in the world standings. The confidence he gained, however, has been a key to his success in 2016.

"I realized I could compete with everyone," he said. "So that's helped me. ... I've been able to make these rodeos count. I've been able to use the opportunities I've had."

Boore's roots in Utah run deep. He graduated from high school in Gunnison, where he an All-State football player. The 25-year-old cowboy attended Southern Utah before transferring to Panhandle (Texas) State.

Although Boore's paycheck won't help him reach the National Finals, he was satisfied with his decision to compete in the non-PRCA event.

"I came, No. 1, for the money," he said, smiling. "The Days of '47 pays out really well. And No. 2, it's close to home. So I thought I'd take a shot at it."

Boore will compete Wednesday night in Ogden and Monday in Spanish Fork. In between, he plans to travel to Cheyenne for Frontier Days and the Snake River Stampede in Nampa, Idaho.

Meanwhile, in the Days of '47 bull riding, Timothy Bingham of Honeyville was the only contestant to complete an eight-second ride. He finished with a score of 82 and by winning, qualified for Saturday night's ERA championship round.

The Days of '47 is the fifth stop on the Elite Rodeo Athletes' inaugural regular-season tour. Three more rodeos will follow before the ERA championship Nov. 9-13 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
