Remember when LeBron James left Cleveland to train with Dwyane Wade in Miami shortly before unfollowing the Cavaliers on Twitter, leading to all sorts of speculation that he was ready to ditch his squad and return to the Heat? Well, with the Cavs now celebrating an NBA championship, that seems pretty unlikely. But suddenly the prospect of a James-Wade reunion looms again - this time in Cleveland.

That's because of a report Tuesday that Wade is prepared to truly hit free agency for the first time in his career. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who cited sources, representatives for the 12-time all-star have let other teams know that he will be available when the NBA's player market officially opens on Friday.

Last year, Wade opted out of his contract but didn't last long in free agency, returning to the Heat on a one-year deal worth $20 million. However, that came after weeks of frustrating negotiations, which ended without Wade receiving the multi-year pact he had sought. With talks again stalling this year, his camp is putting out word that he is more inclined than ever to leave the only team with which he has spent his 13-year career.

By accepting a one-year deal, Wade essentially bet on himself for this past season, and looks like the gamble paid off given that he played in his most games (76) since 2010-11 and averaged 19.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists. The 34-year-old did post his lowest player efficiency rating (20.3) since his rookie season and his minutes per game (30.5) continued their five-year decline, but he looked to have bounced back from his knee problems and did more than enough to pique the interest of other teams.

The Cavs would surely love to add Wade, who maintains a close relationship with James, but they would have to get creative, as they have little salary-cap flexibility. Meanwhile, the Heat have been linked to Kevin Durant in free agency and would likely prefer to see how that plays out before coming to contract terms with Wade.

By that point, though, Wade may be gone, which would be a crushing blow for the many Heat fans to whom he is the franchise's most iconic player. Wade has won three titles in Miami, but he could be intrigued by what he can accomplish in another city.
