Indianapolis • Incoming Utah freshman gymnast MyKayla Skinner has been named to the 2016 U.S. Women's Senior National Team, qualifying her to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in San Jose, Calif., next week.

The team was selected based on performances at the 2016 P&G National Championships, held in St. Louis, over the weekend.

Skinner, who placed second on vault, third on floor and 10th in the all-around at the meet, previously won the all-around at the Glasgow World Cup.

She is one of 15 members on the 2016 U.S. Senior National Team. Five will qualify for the Olympic team at the upcoming Olympic Trials (four competitors and an alternate) July 8 and 10.

Skinner, from Gilbert, Ariz., signed with the Utes in November 2014 but deferred enrolling in school for a year to pursue a berth in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She is in her fourth year on the U.S. Women's Senior National Team.
