Logan • Former Utah State defensive end Phil Olsen is a finalist for induction into the National Football Foundation's College Hall of Fame, it was announced Wednesday.

Olsen played at USU from 1967-69. As a senior, he was a consensus All-American. During his three seasons, the Aggies compiled a record of 17-12-1, including two wins over both Utah and BYU.

In 1969, Olsen was Utah State's team captain and most valuable player. He played in the East-West Shrine Game and the Hula Bowl.

Following Olsen's senior season, the Boston Patriots selected him with the No 4 pick in the first round of the NFL draft. He played seven seasons of professional football with the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams and Patriots.

The NFF College Hall of Fame's Class of 2017 will be announced Jan. 6 in Tampa, Fla., where the national championship game will be played.

Three former Aggies are already in the Hall of Fame. They include Merlin Olsen, E.L. "Dick" Romney and John Ralston.
