Despite recording 10 hits on the night, the Bees managed to push across just two runs, and lost the opening contest of a four-game series to the Nashville Sounds 3-2. Salt Lake stranded five runners on third base, including the potential tying run in the eighth inning in Kyle Kubitza.
Turning Point • A leadoff single in the eighth inning to Sounds' shortstop Chad Pinder came back to bite the Bees as third baseman Renalto Nunez drove a ball down the right-field line for a stand-up RBI double and scored what proved to be the game-winning run.
Bees MVP • First baseman Jefrey Marte was stellar at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the night with a single, double and solo home run in the third inning. It marked just the second home run the Bees have hit in the past 12 games.
Hidden Hero • With the game tied at 2 in the sixth inning and the go-ahead run in scoring position for the Sounds, relief pitcher Cody Satterwhite notched back-to-back strikeouts of Ryon Healey and Matt Olson to end the threat.
Flashing Leather • Bees shortstop Ryan Jackson was responsible for all three outs in the seventh inning, making two nice scoops on difficult hops off balls hit by Rangel Ravelo and Joey Wendle to rob them of base hits.
Angel Angle • Bees starting third baseman Kaleb Cowart was recalled to the Los Angeles Angels this week. Cowart was batting .303 and is the team leader in RBI's (27) and doubles (13).
History Lesson: • On May 27, 2000, the Salt Lake Buzz score nine runs in the third inning en route to a 15-2 win over Edmonton. Fourteen batters came to the plate, with Todd Walker collecting two hits and two RBIs, while Casey Blake and Chad Allen each get an RBI single and a walk in the inning.
