When the semifinals of the Class 4A 1st singles tennis tournament begins today, it might have a couple of weary competitors to start the day.

Ryan Boddington from Skyline and Provo's Aaron Kelemen survived three-set quarterfinals to advance to the final four, while three-time defending champ Jon Dollahite of Mountain View had just the opposite kind of day as he won 6-1, 6-0 in both of his Friday matches at Liberty Park.

Boddington, meanwhile, started the day by edging Orem's Kaden Craig 6-4, 7-6 and then took on Jakob Kempema from Woods Cross in the quarters. Kempema won the first set 6-3, but Boddington won the second 7-6 (13-11 in the tiebreaker) and then eliminated Kempema by winning the third 6-1.

Keleman appeared to be heading for a straight set win in the quarterfinals after winning the opener 7-5 against Bonneville's Keith McMullin. But McMullin then shut out Keleman in the second set before the Provo senior rebounded for a 6-4 victory in the deciding third.

Defending team champ Timpview is on course to repeat as Josh Pearce also advanced to the semis in 1st singles. Timpview's Travis Wardrop also moved forward in 2nd singles while Sotty Wynn did the same in 3rd singles. Both of Timpview's entries in the doubles categories also made it to the semifinal round.

Timpview starts the last day with 10 points overall, while Maple Mountain and Skyline both have seven and are tied for second.
