London • English soccer's domestic league structure could be reorganized into five divisions containing a total of 100 clubs in a proposed revamp starting from the 2019-20 season.
The Football League, which runs the three leagues below the Premier League, has sent out a discussion document to clubs outlining the proposals, which stem from "English football's collective concerns" about fixture congestion.
The domestic league system would be reorganized into five divisions — including a new "League Three" — of 20 teams.
The Football League said it has the "in-principle" support of executives from the Premier League and the Football Association for the proposals.
There are currently 92 teams in the top four professional leagues.
Any final decisions would not be made until June 2017.
