Seattle • The Los Angeles Angels have placed infielder Cliff Pennington on the 15-day disabled list and brought up infielders Gregorio Petit and Jefry Marte from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Right-hander Javy Guerra was also designated for assignment on Friday.

Pennington left a game Thursday night against the Cardinals with a left hamstring cramp and is the seventh Angel currently on the disabled list. Pennington is hitting .217 with one home run and five RBIs.

Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar also left Thursday's game after jamming his thumb diving for a ball. He was held out of the lineup Friday.

Marte is starting at shortstop Friday night against the Seattle Mariners, his first major league appearance. He hit .225 with two home runs and 15 RBIs in 33 games with Salt Lake.

Petit hit .327 with three doubles and three RBIs in 17 games for Salt Lake. —
